The BNXT League is born !

The officials of the Pro Basketball League (PBL) and the Dutch Basketball League presented this Thursday the name of the new competition which will bring together the Belgian and Dutch championships in one and same competition from next season: the BNXT League.

On Thursday, the officials of the two leagues unveiled the name of this new competition which will begin next September: the BNXT League.

“Starting in September, we will be launching this new and ambitious project. This is the result of the hard work of many people from the leagues, clubs and federations in the past year. Since January we have been working with an interim board of 4 people from both leagues, with the task of concretizing the preparatory work of 6 working groups that were active from April to November. The interest of media & commercial parties is great and both play a crucial role in making this a success.”, said Wim Van de Keere, general manager of Pro Basketball League.

The competition formula will be as follows: the season begins with two national competitions, in all teams playing the same number of matches. The top five clubs from each country come together in a “Golden Group”. Belgian clubs play at home and away against Dutch clubs. The teams which are not part of the top 5 are found in the “Silver Group” and also play 10 matches.

The play-offs also consist of a national part. The two best Belgian clubs qualify for the semi-finals of the Belgian play-offs. The three other Belgian teams of the “Golden Group” as well as the best Belgian team of the “Silver Group” meet for the two other places and semi-finals. This series of play-offs will end with the designation of the national champion.

The clubs of the “Silver Group” which only qualify as the national play-offs will start with the play-offs of the BNEXT League. On each tour, the losing teams of the national POs will integrate with the POs of the BNEXT League. The winners of these series compete against the national champions at home and away. Then the two remaining clubs face off in a home game and an away game for the BNEXT League title.
