Ajay Mitchell declared for the NBA draft

The decision has been made.

After 3 seasons in the NCAA the 21 year old Point Guard from UCSB, Ajay Mitchell has announced that he will enter the 2024 NBA draft.

Mitchell started his basketball journey at the age of 4 when he joined Union Huy. After passages with RBC Haneffe, BC Alleur, Liège Basket and the AWBB academy throughout his youth Mitchell then made his first step abroad when he signed with Nanterre in the French Espoirs (U21) league in 2019. During the season he decided to leave Nanterre and came back to Belgium as he joined Limburg United where he competed in TDM1 with the B-team and the Belgian First Division with the A-team.

Despite having several offers for a professional contract in Belgium Mitchell then decided to take the plunge across the ocean and joined UC Santa Barbara in the NCAA. In 3 seasons at UCSB he averaged 16.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.3 apg & 1.1 spg and added 5 individual awards to his trophy case, including the Big West Freshman of the Year in 2021-’22 and the Big West Player of the Year in 2022-’23, as well as a Big West Championship title in 2022-’23.

Mitchell is expected to get drafted in the second round and if so could become the second Belgian player active in the NBA next season.
