The Belgian Lions remain perfect in this opening window of the EuroBasket 2021 Qualifiers as they defeated Denmark with the 72-88 final score.
Our Lions were again very dominant this game throughout the opening three quarters, thanks to their lights-out shooting from behind the arc with Tabu in particular putting on a show with his offensive efficiency. At the end of the 3rd quarter our Lions were comfortably looking at a 52-78 lead and everyone assumed this game was already over. But then came the 4th quarter. The Belgian offense completely stagnated and the Danish bench started a 3-pt bombardment of their own to launch a 16-0 run before Tabu finally drained another three to stop the bleeding (68-81). In the last couple of minutes Obasohan then further iced the game with 3 consecutive strong drives and put the exclamation mark on the 72-88 final score with a monster block on a buzzer-beating attempt by Lundberg.
Jonathan Tabu was omni-present in today’s game and ended up with 22 pts (5/11 on 3pts), 8 rebs, 7 asts, 3 stls & 1 blk, while Retin Obasohan took over in the 4th to finish with 16 pts, 2 rebs, 3 asts & 1 blk. Quentin Serron (10 pts, 2 rebs & 2 asts) and Maxime De Zeeuw (10 pts, 3 rebs & 3 asts) also ended up in double-figures for our 2-0 Lions.
The second window of these Qualifiers will be played in November when our Lions first head out on the road to face the Czech Republic (26/11) and then move on to Lithuania (29/11).
