Frenchman Valéry Demory is the new national coach of the Belgian Cats. This was confirmed by the Belgian basketball association on Saturday.

“Valéry Demory is a warm personality, with extensive experience and palmares at the highest level,” says the General Manager of the Cats, Koen Umans. “He is burning with ambition to lead the Belgian Cats, together with the entire staff, to even stronger performances and awards.”

Demory was a player in the French first division in the 1980s and 1990s, picking up prizes with Limoges CSP and Pau-Orthez, among others. He was also a 121-time international for the French national team. As a coach, he ensured the promotion of Mourenx BC from D3 to the French first division.

In 2007, he joined Basket Lattes Montpellier, with whom he played champion in 2014 and 2016. In 2017, he transferred to Lyon ASVEL Féminin, with whom he won the championship for the third time in his career in 2019. Demory also won the French Cup four times in his career and was elected Coach of the Year twice. Since 2021, he is back at work at Montpellier.
