Andy Van Vliet, Ajay Mitchell and Tim Lambrecht are out of the final squad for Saturday’s game against Denmark. Basketball Belgium announced the team on Friday. National coach Dario Gjergja opted for Thomas Akyazili, Manu Lecomte, Jean-Marc Mwema, Jonathan Tabu, Loïc Schwartz, Pierre-Antoine Gillet, Maxime De Zeeuw, Hans Vanwijn, Alex Libert, Ismael Bako, Khalid Boukichou and Retin Obasohan. Vincent Kesteloot had to drop out after a positive corona test. His teammate at the Antwerp Giants Vrenz Bleijenbergh turned out not to be infected, but had to go into quarantine. The Belgian Lions will start the final part of the preliminary round of the European Championship 2022 on Saturday in a bubble in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. They need one more victory to qualify for the Eurobasket 2022. On Saturday (15H30) they will have their first chance against Denmark.

With three wins in four games, Gjergja’s team leads the ranking in group C. Ismaël Bako was released by ASVEL Villeurbanne despite EuroLeague commitments and is back international for the first time in two years. Maxime De Zeeuw, Jonathan Tabu and Khalid Boukichou are also back in the squad after missing out the last window.
