Antwerp Giants win Belgian Cup

The Telenet Giants Antwerp have prolonged their Belgian Cup title as they defeated Spirou Basket Charleroi with the 83-78 final score.

The Giants really made the difference in an excellent third quarter and headed into the final quarter they were holding on to a 68-56 lead. Spirou fought back however and slowly but surely closed the gap and with 4 minutes left to play the 70-66 score stood on the board as we headed into a thrilling finish. In the final minutes it was Sanders who made sure that the Giants got their first trophy of the season on the offensive end, while youngster Bleijenbergh blocked 2 consecutive shots to halt Spirou’s come-back.

Luka Rupnik (MVP) led the way for the Giants as he recorded 21 pts, 5 rebs & 8 asts. Hans Vanwijn was also excellent all game long as he finished with 18 pts, 11 rebs & 3 asts. Sanders (14 pts) and Dudzinski (11 pts) also finished in double-figures.

For Spirou we saw an excellent game by Kenny Smith who dropped a game-high 23 pts. Beane added 19 pts, while Libert scored 13 pts and Hervelle chipped in with 11 pts.
