The Belgian Cats beat Portugal (49-59) on their way to the EuroBasket Women 2021.

Without Emma Meesseman and Kyara Linskens, Philip Mestdagh decided to put Billie Massey in the starting 5.

The Cats didn’t waist any time and were up by 6 after 10 minutes (10-16).

The second quarter started very well, the Cats scored 13 points in 4 minutes thanks to some 3’s from Julie Vanloo and Kim Mestdagh (13-29 after 14′). But the second part of this quarter was very defensive (17-33 after 20′).

After halftime, the Cats restarted very strongly, they scored 15 points in 6 minutes (24-48 after 26′). But once again, they struggled in the second part of the quarter, scoring only 2 points in the last 4 minutes (31-50 after 30′).

In the last quarter, Portugal fought hard to cut the deficit, but the Cats managed to retain the lead (49-59) !

The MVP of the game is Kim Mestdagh, she recorded 17 points (three 3’s), 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Julie Allemand had another all-around performance: 9 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds.

The Cats can punch their ticket for the Eurobasket this Saturday if they can beat Ukraine and if Finland beats Portugal.

The EuroBasket Women 2021 will be co-hosted by France and Spain between 17 and 27 June 2021.
