The third game of the TDM1 season opening night gave us a spectacular upset as LDP Donza hosted Basics Melsele Beveren.

Although the opening quarter remained pretty balanced it was the visiting team from Melsele that took control in the second quarter and ran out to a solid 23-35 advantage at the half. An advantage they continued to increase in the third quarter up to their maximum lead of 17 points (27-44). Headed into the final quarter Melsele was still firmly in control with the 38-53 lead.

And then came the turn-around. LDP started running on all cylinders, while Melsele’s offense went ice-cold. With the home-team placing a 14-0 run the deficit quickly melted away and halfway the final quarter the scoreboard read 49-55. And LDP wasn’t finished yet. In the final minutes they closed the gap completely and jumped ahead to eventually get the unexpected 72-64 victory.

We selected Simon De Bruyne as our Player of the Game as he finished with 12 points & 6 rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench. Landon Unruh ended up as top-scorer for LDP with his 13 points, while Janis Ramma (12 points) and Niels Lataire (10 points) both also finished in double-figures. LDP Donza got 35 points from their bench, compared to only 11 points from Melsele’s bench.

For Melsele it was Leroy Anthonis who stuck out as he recorded 15 points & 7 rebounds in the loss. Geoffrey Hockins chipped in with 14 points and Thibaut Vervoort finished with 13 points.
