On this Sunday afternoon it was the turn of Guco Lier and the visitors from Oxaco Boechout to get their season started.

Throughout the first half the youngsters from the home-team did a solid job and during the half-time break they were still hanging on in this low-scoring affair with the 30-37 score.

In the third quarter both teams kicked things into a higher gear as the youngsters from Guco Van Oosterwyck and Mennes started finding the bottom of the net. Unfortunately for them Oxaco – led by Van De Broek and Celis – were responding in kind and so headed into the final quarter Guco was still looking at a 58-66 deficit.

Oxaco started off that final quarter with a 0-9 run which knocked the fight out of the home-team and led the visitors to the deserved 74-93 victory.

Nick Celis was our Player of the Game for the winners as he drained 24 points (10-20 FG’s) and added 8 rebounds, 3 assists & 4 steals in 35 minutes of action. He got plenty of help from Bert Van De Broek who finished with 19 points & 6 rebounds. Mark De Meyer and Hannes Reichardt both chipped in with 12 points apiece. Special mention also for 17 year old youngster Dennis Verlinden who in his TDM1 debut recorded 6 points & 6 assists in 17 minutes of action.

For the home-team it were the newcomers who led the way with Dries Bogaerts finishing with 16 points & 8 rebounds, while youngster Joppe Mennes recorded 15 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals & 2 blocks in an action-packed 29 minutes off the bench. Vic Van Oosterwyck chipped in with 17 points & 7 rebounds in the loss.
