Earlier this afternoon it was the turn of Guco Lier to host BBC Lommel in their second game of the TDM1 season.

When Guco Lier found out that they would have to get through the season without their star-player from last season (Niels Van Den Eynde), they already knew it would be a tough challenge for them. To help them out they have now signed Sami Demirtas who comes over from Limburg United.

Unfortunately for them it hasn’t helped them much as they faced Lommel earlier this afternoon. Although the home-team got off to a furious 12-0 start Lommel quickly set things straight again and at the end of the opening quarter they had returned back to within 4 points with the 20-16 score on the board.

Youngster Mennes started that second quarter for Lier in the same way he had ended the first (with a dunk) but couldn’t prevent Jacobs from giving Lommel their first lead of the game (29-30) halfway the second quarter. And when Ceyssens also started getting in on the action it was Lommel who held on to the 36-40 lead at the half.

The two Toon’s (Ceyssens and Wesenbeek) gave Lommel the 8 point advantage early on in the third quarter, before Lier responded to tie things up 49-49 on a three by youngster Van Oosterwyck. Mennes and Van Oosterwyck then put together a 8-0 run for the home-team to take the 60-53 lead but Maesen and Schelkens cut it right back down to 60-58 as both teams headed into the final quarter.

Ceyssens and Jacobs continued their strong play in that final quarter and put Lommel in position for the win with the 68-73 score halfway the 4th quarter. Mennes and Van Oosterwyck did what they could but in the end it was Ceyssens who had the last word and gave Lommel the 75-83 victory.

Our Player of the Game went to Toon Ceyssens in this one as he recorded an impressive 28 points (9-13 FG’s) and added 9 rebounds in the win. Wietse Jacobs had it going from down-town as he drained 5 of 8 threes and ended up with 17 points. Toon Wesenbeek also finished in double-digits scoring as he chipped in with the 13 points & 12 rebounds Double-Double. With the win Lommel improves to a 1-1 record.

The youngsters Vic Van Oosterwyck and Joppe Mennes continue to show off their talent as Vic finished with 15 points, 9 rebounds & 7 assists in the loss, while Joppe came off the bench to add 17 points & 5 rebounds. Sam Dewit and Mathias Van Den Bogaert also finished in double-figures as they both scored 12 points apiece. Guco Lier drops to a 0-2 record on the season.
