Eurocup: First win of the season for Antwerp, after eight straight losses !

The Giants won their first game of the season in the Eurocup Wednesday night at home against the Lithuanians of Lietkabelis (86-77).

At the start of the match, the two teams were evenly matched (16-16) before the Giants accelerated. Kenneth Smith (23 points and 5 assists) and Vrenz Bleijenbergh set the pace in the game and allowed the Antwerp to break away before joining the locker room (43-37).

After the break, the visitors relied mainly on Kyle Vinales (18 points) to reduce the gap but Antwerp manage to retain his lead before the last quarter thanks (61-58 at the end of the 3rd act).

The tension was very high when the Lithuanians reduced the gap to only 1 (78-77) with less than a minute to go in the game. Finally, Antwerp did not fail on the free throw line to secure his first victory of the season in the Eurocup(86-77).

For Antwerp, Kenneth “Speedy” Smith recorded 23 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds. Vrenz Bleijenbergh recorded 14 points (4 three pointers), 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Niels Van Den Eynde scored 13 points (3 three pointers). The Giants scored 15 three pointers in the game.

Next Wednesday, the Giants will end their European season with a trip to Italy to face Virtus Segafredo Bologna and their stars for their 10 games of the season in Eurocup. Already eliminated, the Giants are last in their group with a record of one victory for eight defeats.
