Emma Meesseman won the 2020 Belgian Female Athlete of the Year award.

She was elected as the Sportswoman of the Year at the Sports Gala this Friday. It is the first time that a female basketball player receives this prestigious prize.

Emma Meesseman was elected with 826 points. Just in front of her teammate at the Belgian Cats Julie Allemand (578 points). Third place goes to trackcyclist Lotte Kopecky (477 points).

Nina Derwael won the award last year. Thanks to Meesseman, the Belgian Cats qualified for the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The player of the Russian top club Ekaterinburg was named Most Valuable Player at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Oostende in February. After a positive corona test, she was not there when the Belgian Cats secured a ticket for the Fiba Eurobasket 2021.
