Axel Hervelle officialy retires from basketball after an amazing career.

It was an open secret, but Axel Hervelle decided to make it official yesterday on Twitter: he ends his basketball career.

It’s time for me to admit that the ‘story’ of my life is coming to an end! Thank you basketball for giving me so many fond memories, friends and emotions … I’ll miss the game“, said Hervelle on Twitter.

Axelle Hervelle (37/2m05) signed his first professional contract with Vervier-Pepinster in 2003 with Niksa Bakcevic. He has spent most of his career playing basketball in Spain, Real Madrid (2004-2010) and Bilbao (2010-2018) . In 2005, while playing for Spanish power house Real Madrid, he became the first Belgian to be drafted by the Denver Nuggets. with the 52nd pick. In 2017, he decided to stop playing for the Belgian Lions. He played 134 (!) games for the national team. Hervelle returned to Belgium in 2018 and since then he has been defending the colors of Spirou Charleroi.

This decision is not a surprise as he announced in 2019 that the 2019-2020 will be his last. But with the pandemic, he couldn’t say goodbye like he wanted to.

This announcement cames only a couple of days after the Knicks announced they acquired his draft rights in the Austin Rivers sign and trade !
